Our guiding force at Rural Sourcing is our mission: to create high-quality technology jobs in Middle America cities where talent is often overlooked. Our Mission in Action showcases Rural Sourcing colleagues who represent how this mission impacts individuals and the communities in which we operate.
Bohdan Fedyk moved to New York more than five years ago from Ukraine. His best friend was working remotely as a QA Engineer at Google and Bohdan was intrigued by the thought of having such a meaningful job and being able to work from home. His friend shared what it was like to be a QA Engineer and the skills necessary to become one. It wasn’t long after that Bohdan’s friend taught him the basics of manual testing and helped him find his first job as a freelancer.
Looking to Grow
He soon moved on to a full-time role at a software development company based in California as a QA Analyst. Although he liked the people he worked with, the company wasn’t invested in Bohdan’s growth. Opportunities for promotion were scarce and repeated requests for investment in further training were denied. “I think software testing isn’t just showing up and doing your job. It’s about constantly growing and developing yourself, so I wanted to work for a company that supported me in that way.” Bohdan let his network know that he was seeking a new opportunity and a friend who worked for Rural Sourcing encouraged him to apply for a role here. He started as a Consultant in November 2021.
Finding a Great Fit
After joining Rural Sourcing, Bohdan was thrilled to see that he’d landed at a place that would encourage his growth. “RSI created a development plan for me right away and it’s obvious that they want me to learn more.” One of Bohdan’s main goals this year is to become an automation engineer, so he’s currently learning Cypress. Ideally, he’d like to work on a project where he can combine his manual and automation skills. Beyond that, he’d love to become a Scrum Master in a few years. “The key is for your company to rely on you, believe in you and support you. That’s exactly what I’ve found here.”
